Watch Movie - "Resurrecting the Champ"
Many people might not cry watching this move, as it is not a sad movie - but he who understands the subtleties of meaning in this wonderful Film will most undoubtedly shed a tear. This Movie has a Boxer, and boxing is a constant theme within the movie. But the movie is neither about Boxing, or boxers. In truth, the movie deals with much more subtle and humanist elements of the story to present us with a Masterpiece of social satire; Disguised within a sensitive, and moving storyline that delves ever deeper into the negative influence of both Society and Career on one's behaviour and level of honesty with others, one's children, and ultimately, Oneself.
So what is this film really about beneath the facade of a boxing story.There are really three films in one if you wish to classify the movie thematically;
The film is superficially about a Journalist and Journalism (the best one since Walter Matthau in "The Front Page"), and has just as quirky a twist in the middle of the story as that movie too"). The issue of the media and public communications is also stirically dealt with showing us how both the present day media agencies do not try to document facts, rather, sell stories, regardless of how true they really are or not, and also showing us that even the endconsumer guzzles the product with little interest to question the authenticity of the information transmitted. I quote from the film; "The one thing that people don't want, is the Truth".
The Film on its middle layer of content interpretation is about Lies and what makes us into Liars (society, our hopes and fears that arise based on social conditioning and career pressures), and the lies that come from Love. It is about the Father/Son relationship and what complexes arise thereof... and the film is also about how the truth can both hurt and heal at the same time.
Hence the line that made me shed a tear or two from the film;
Quote;
"The one force more powerful than a son wanting the admiration of his Father, is that of a Father wanting the admiration of his son. Sometimes we need the help of our imagination to acheive that status - for it is no easy task, being the strongest, wisest, most beloved man in all the land.
And what is sadder than that moment, when our children discover that we are not the illusory supermen we have created, but rather, as Herman Melville wrote; 'Men Drained of Valor'.
The Lies that come from love can devastate, as much as those that come from Malice ".
